Women's Cross Country Finishes Eighth at the Delaware Invitational

NEWARK, Del. - The George Mason women's cross country team earned an eighth-place finish, scoring 186 team points, at the Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park in Newark, Del. on Saturday morning.

Freshman Samantha Fickel crossed the finish line first for the Patriots, finishing 18th with a time of 19:48. Two other Mason athletes finished in the top-50 at the meet, as sophomore Candace Carter placed 42nd while senior Alicia York finished 43rd.

Two Colonial Athletic Association programs placed 1-2 in the team scoring with Towson taking the title with 46 points and host Delaware finishing as the runners-up with 54 points. Merrecia James, from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, won the individual race with a time of 18:44.

George Mason will run again on Friday, Oct. 26 at the CAA Championships at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.
