Women's Cross Country Finishes Fourth at JMU Invite

George Mason finished fourth at the JMU Invitational women's cross country meet Saturday morning at the New Market Battlefield.

Mason's top finisher Melissa Ferry (West Chester, Pa./West Chester B. Reed Henderson) completed the 5,100-meter course in 22 minutes, 21.0 seconds for a 24th place finish. Alicia York (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) was not far behind, finishing 26th with a time of 22:47.0. James Madison senior Shannon Saunders finished well ahead of the field to capture first place with a time of 18 minutes, 49.6 seconds to easily beat Georgetown's Elizabeth Maloy, who placed second in 19:10.1.

Host James Madison finished with 26 points edging Georgetown, which compiled 30 points, for the team title. Eastern Mennonite (104) was third, followed by George Mason (110) and Bridgewater (113).

The team will participate in the George Washington Invitational next Saturday at Bull Run Park.
