Women's Cross Country Finishes Tied for Fourth at Towson Invitational

COCKEYSVILLE, Md. - George Mason's women's cross country team opened up its season with a tie for fourth place at the Towson Invitational at Oregon Ridge Park in Cockeysville, Md., finishing the meet with 144 points.

Towson won the meet with 36 points, followed by Salisbury (45), Millersville (115) and Morgan State, who tied Mason with 144 points.

The top finishers for the Patriots were Ally Romanow and Alicia York. Romanow finished 21st with a time of 20:35.99, while York clocked in right behind Romanow, crossing the finish line in 20:38.31, good for 22nd place.

George Mason's men's team also began its season on Saturday, competing at the Lou Onesty Invitational at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va. The Patriots finished in ninth place. Liberty won the meet with 41 points, followed by Virginia (88) and William and Mary (94).

John Crain and Kris Cruz led the Patriots, finishing 28th and 29th, respectively. Crain crossed the finish line in 26:06.30, while Cruz clocked in at 26:11.50.

Both teams will compete again next weekend. The women's team will run at the JMU Invitational at New Market Battlefield in New Market, Va. on Saturday, Sept. 16. The men's team will travel to Newark, Del. to run in the Delaware Invitational at White Clay Creek State Park on the same day.
