Mason Women's Volleyball Drops 3-1 Decision To UCF

TAMPA, Fla. - Senior Jaqueline Kohler recorded her fourth double-double of the year with 12 kills and 12 digs, but the University of Central Florida defeated the George Mason women's volleyball team Friday evening, 3-1 (30-22, 24-30, 30-20, 30-27) in the South Florida Invitational.

The Patriots (6-4) were unable to outlast an effective Golden Knights (8-6) attack, led by Schanell Neiderworder's 20 kills. UCF out-hit Mason by a .210-to-.173 margin, as Kohler and sophomores Rebecca Walter and Sam Simmonds paced the Patriots' offense. In addition to Kohler's 12 kills, Walter and Simmonds both hit double-figures with 15 and 10 kills, respectively.

A closely fought first gave the Knights a early lead, but Mason answered right back to win game two, evening the match. However, in the third game, UCF recorded a .222 to -.031 margin, to cruise to earn the win. Despite an even score at 16-16 in the game, the Knights embarked on a 16-4 run to close out the Patriots and take a 2-1 lead.

UCF finished off Mason in the fourth game in a closely contested contest, as the two teams stayed within three points for the duration of the game. Mason moved to within one point of tying at 28, but two straight UCF points sealed the win.

Mason will play two matches on Saturday, facing Texas A&M - Corpus Christi at high noon before squaring off against the host Bulls at 5 p.m.
