Women's Volleyball Defeats Howard, 3-0

FAIRFAX, Va. - Sophomore Rebecca Walter led all scorers with 11 kills to help lead the George Mason women's volleyball team to an emphatic 3-0 victory this morning in the opening match of the 2007 Brion's Grille Patriot Invitational at Linn Gym. Game scores were 30-16, 30-19, and 30-19.

The Patriots (3-2), hosts of the one-day tournament, out-hit the Bison (0-5) by a .270-to-.010 margin as they took the first match. Along with Walter, the Patriots' blistering attack was powered by classmate Sam Simmonds, who set a new career high with nine kills. Senior Jaqueline Kohler, who chipped in eight kills, also led the Patriots with three aces. Junior Jourdan Dozier continued her outstanding play at the net, as she tied a career-high with six blocks on the day.

Mason will be back in action in the final match of the tournament this evening when it squares off against Lehigh at 7 p.m.
