FAIRFAX, Va. - In the final tuneup before the IC4A and ECAC Championships, the George Mason track and field teams saw a number of its student-athletes meet the qualifying standards as the host of the 2008 Patriot Open Invitational, held Saturday at George Mason Stadium.

On the women's side, two Patriots as well as the 4x100 relay team of Britney Streeter, Marie Fields, Ryann Hendricks, and Tiara Swindell met the ECAC qualifying standard. The relay team finished first with a time of 46.76, a mark which also qualified them for the NCAA East Regional Championship. Swindell also qualified for the ECAC and NCAA Regional Championships with her third-place time of 54.60 in the 400-meter run. Chia Hudson's distance of 12.19 meters in the triple jump qualified her for the ECAC Championship, while she finished second in the long jump with a 5.72-meter mark. Jennifer Bailey also recorded a top-three finish as she hurled the discus to a 40.51-meter distance.

The Mason men saw two Patriots meet the IC4A qualifiers. John Crain ran the 1,500-meter event in 3:50.75, good for third-place and a berth in the IC4A Championship, while Ryan McCoy met the IC4A standard with a 7.15-meter mark in the long jump. In the triple jump, McCoy surpassed his season-high with a 15.66-meter jump, meeting both the IC4A and NCAA Regional qualifying standards in a second-place finish. Rounding out the Patriot men's top-three performances was Nate Harris's third-place time of 54.00 in the 400-meter hurdles.

Next up for the Patriots are the IC4A and ECAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will both be held from May 16-18 at William Weaver Track and Field Stadium in Princeton, N.J. Two weeks later, Florida State University will host the NCAA East Regional Championships, set to be contested on May 30 and 31.
