Lady Netters Win Second Match in a Row

March 31, 2007

Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason women's tennis team won their second match in a row as they downed Mt. St. Mary's by a score of 5-2. The Lady netters now garner a 4-9 overall record as the face off against UMBC on Sunday at the Robinson Field Tennis Courts.

In doubles play on Saturday, Julie Moscato and Alicia Van Zandt won a nail biter, 9-7. Their win was followed up with a 8-6 win by the No. 3 doubles team of Meridith Cutchin and Jen Kramer. In singles play, the No. 1 position player Maricel Ballester, won her second match in a row, as she defeated Katie Muething, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. Also winning their second matches in a row were Moscato, Cutchin and Ellen Mathis, each of whom won in two sets. Van Zandt fell in a three set battle to Ashley Wentzl, 2-6, 6-3, 5-7.

The Lady Netters will look to extend their winning streak to three as they host UMBC Sunday.

1) Maricel Ballester & Alex LaCoste  lost 6-8 to Muething/Johnson
2) Julie Moscato & Alicia Van Zandt  won 9-7 over Iosue/Edmonds
3) Meredith Cutchin & Jen Kramer won 8-6 over Wentzel/Gragan

Singles 1) Ballester won 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 over Katie Muething 2) LaCoste lost 0-6, 3-6 to Chelsea Johnson 3) Moscato won 6-2, 6-3 over Jen Iosue 4) Cutchin won 6-3, 6-3 over Whitney Edmonds 5) Van Zandt lost 2-6, 6-3, 5-7 to Ashley Wentzel 6) Ellen Mathis won 6-1, 6-3 over Emily Gragan
