Strong Doubles Play for Lady Netters Cannot Hold Over for a Win

March 24, 2007

Fairfax, Va. - The Lady Netters fell to Howard University by a score of 1-6. The Mason women came out firing on all cylinders during doubles play, but a rain delayed shifted all momentum to the other side of the net.

Mason took two of the three doubles matches for their lone point in the overall score. Maricel Ballester and Alex LaCoste won, 8-2, over Courtney Dorsey and Michele Gee. Julie Moscato and Alicia Van Zandt also won, 8-6, over Aja Wright and Henderson. The forty-five minute rain delay between doubles and singles play gave Howard the momentum they needed. Head Coach Steve Curtis had this to say after the match, "Howard handled the delay better than we did. They were able to regroup and played very fired up tennis following the rain delay." Howard went on to win all six singles matches. But all is not lost for the Lady Netters who hold an overall record of 2-8. Coach Curtis is very happy with the improvement his team is showing. "I am encouraged because I saw a definite improvement from our last outing to this one."

The Lady Netters will host Radford on Sunday, March 25 at the Robinson Field Tennis Courts.
