NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 17, 2008) - The Patriot women's tennis team bowed out of the CAA Tournament today as #8 James Madison defeated Mason, 4-2, in the first round of the CAA Women's Tennis Championship at Huntington Park Tennis Center.

James Madison recorded the doubles point as Rebecca Erickson and Kristin Nimitz beat George Mason's Lindsay Gray and Alicia Van Zandt, 8-3 at number one and the Dukes' Alyssa Brandalik and Barrett Donner edged Meredith Cutchin and Alexandria LaCoste, 9-7.

The Patriots earned their two points in singles action as Gray defeated Erickson at number one, 6-3, 7-5 and Cutchin won 6-1, 6-3 over Donner at number six. JMU got a 6-2, 6-1 win by Nimitz over Stacey Berlinger at number two and a 6-3, 6-1 triumph by Anna Khoor over Sarah Dieffenbach, 6-3, 6-1 at number three. JMU clinched the win when Kelly Maxwell outlasted Mason's Julia Moscato, 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 at number four.

The Patriots end the season with a match scheduled for April 22 against the District of Columbia.
