Yale Claims Both Patriot Invitational Titles; Mason's Teams Place Fifth

Fairfax, Va.--Yale University's swimming & diving teams both took home the Patriot Invitational titles, with the men claiming it for the second year in a row. Both of Mason's squads placed fifth, out of 11 teams, with the women scoring 458 points and the men, 343, in the three-day event. On the women's side, Mason sophomore Amanda Fielding won the 1-meter dive event with a score of 244.70, while teammate junior Colleen Flack was a close second with 242.80 points. Junior Liz Ouzts placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.17) for the Patriots, while sophomore Brittany Surkovich finished seventh in the 200 butterfly (2:10.22). Mason's 400 free relay team placed fifth (3:35.12), while sophomore Sarah Bizer finished the 100 free in a time of 53.06 (7th place). Freshman Ryan Metzker collected 295.70 points in the 3-meter dive event for third place, while senior Tim Norton finished third in the 200 fly (1:52.50) and sixth in the 200 backstroke (1:54.11). In the men's 100 free, Yale's Alex Righi set a new meet record with a time of 45.06, while the women's 400 yard free relay team for UMBC also set a new meet record (3:29.02). The Patriots will not return to the Aquatic & Fitness Center until Jan. 27, 2006 when they host American, Old Dominion and Army.
