
Swimming and Diving Competes Against North Carolina and Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Facing two strong Atlantic Coast Conference opponents in North Carolina and host Maryland, the George Mason swimming and diving team tallied a total of 10 top-three finishes, including two victories by freshman Ashley Danner, in a tri-meet at Eppley Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. Mason dropped both of the dual meets to the Tar Heels and the Terrapins. Danner continued her impressive debut season with the Patriots as she topped the field in both the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, improving upon her existing school-record times in each event. In the 100, Danner finished nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher as she set a new school best in 1:01.98. Her time of 2:14.28 in the 200 also improved upon her school record time. Additionally, Mason scored eight more top-three finishes against the field. On the women's side, sophomore Lisa Faulkner placed second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 279.60. Sophomore Jenny Kane touched the wall in 10:35.72 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, good for third place. Recording a third place finish as well was the 200-meter freestyle relay of Danner, junior Claire Weems, freshman Nicole Harmon and senior Mary Beth Cheslock, who finished in 1:39.76. The men's 200 free relay squad also scored a third place finish, as freshmen Preston Wolter and Max Tyburski, sophomore Spencer Roe and junior Tad Ogren recorded a 1:27.82 time. Wolter finished third in the 1,000 free with a time of 9:35.19, while junior Ryan David also finished third in the 200-yard individual medley with a 1:58.62 mark.
Freshman Bryan Bahr placed second in the 3-meter dive with 300.30 points. The Patriots return to action in two weeks when they host the annual Patriot Invitational at Jim McKay Natatorium from November 21-23. |
