For Women's Soccer Team, Tanning Becomes a Top Priority in Brazil

March 14, 2008

For our out-of-state fans, we bring to you a Cali flavor of Day Six in gorgeous Brazil. Next Stop, Sao Sebastiao!

Leaving Santos was heartbreaking for everyone. However, little did we know what was yet to come! We jumped on the bus once again for a two-hour bus ride across the mountains, through the hills and along the coast. The beautiful, lush, green scenery on the way made the time pass quicker than expected.

We were surprised when we finally reached Sao Sebastiao because of its isolated location. Upon arriving to the hotel, less than a block away was the beach; which brought us a nostalgic feeling. After hopping off the bus, we quickly received or room assignments, and shortly thereafter, our luggage was taken to our villas. We were surprised at how large the resort was and the numerous amounts of activities offered: archery, futbol, tennis, ping pong, rock climbing, zip-lining through the jungle, pools and much more!

Unfortunately, all we were interested in was tanning and relaxing by the beach (typical for us Cali girls). After lunch, we were quick to get our suits on and head to the beach. Waiting for us at the beach, although somewhat overcast, were boogie boards, surfboards, juices out of coconuts, large waves, volleyballs and surprisingly, shopping!

After spending some time in the water, we decided to get into a rigorous game of volleyball. The team that won will remain unnamed because of our competitive spirits; we like to believe that we are all winners here. Shortly after came bartering with the Brazilian beach salesmen. We couldn't resist the authentic sarongs, tunics, skirts and jewelry. After what seemed like three hours of contemplating our last reals on our desired purchases, we finished our last moments of tanning along the beach shores and taking our last fun pictures in the sun.

Switching gears, we thought that getting some touches on the ball before tomorrow's last international match would be very beneficial. We worked up a sweat playing soccer tennis and small-sided scrimmages. By that time we were all starving and ready for another fantastic dinner.

Stuffed, some of us decided to explore the unfamiliar area while others were more interested in a fun night swim. For us explorers, it wasn't long before we ventured to a local surf diner where we got ice cream. The unique diner, which surprisingly played American music, was fully decorated with boards, surfers, beach pictures and paintings. Lucky for us, we spotted a large California surf map and were quick to take a picture! Exhausted from another adventurous and busy day, we heading back to the resort to get a good night sleep before tomorrow's game.

We are all excited for our final game, but sad that this wonderful trip is winding down. Even so, we still know "that all good things must come to an end." Tune in for tomorrow's diary entry.

XOXO

Cali Girls Nilani Duarte and Sasha Vido
