Fairfax, Va. - The George Mason women's soccer team suffered its first home loss of the season as Indiana became the first team to score on the Mason defense in more than 230 minutes as the Patriots fell to the Hoosiers, 4-1 at George Mason Stadium. Indiana did a solid job on defense limiting Mason's shots while capitalizing on their few opportunities. Mason fell to 2-4-0 on the year while Indiana improved to 3-3-0.

Mason had the bulk of the scoring chances in the first quarter of the match. The Patriots had a corner kick that resulted in a Leslie Cabe header which was blocked. Kimmy Moss also had a header which was just wide. Indiana, meanwhile, managed just one shot in the first 25 minutes. In the 26th minute, Indiana's Jocelyn Moses played a through ball to the right side that had Mason looking for an offsides. The flag wasn't there and Leigh Ann Cummings took the pass and played a cross to the head of Chloe McKay on the far side. She dived and knocked the ball in for a 1-0 Indiana lead.

Indiana didn't allow Mason any time to regroup. Just three minutes later, Devon Beach played a ball from the outside to Christie Kotynski at the top of the 18-yard mark. She took a moment to gather herself before putting the ball in the back of the net to make it 2-0. Mason nearly cut the deficit in half in the 36th minute as Alyssa Anderson had a one-on-one opportunity with keeper but Lauren Hollandsworth was able to stop the shot and no Mason player was there to gather the rebound. In the 45th minute, Mason had a scoring opportunity developing but time ran out in the half before the Patriots could get a quality shot off.

In the second half, Mason got few looks early and the prompted a switch at goal keeper. Kelly Keelan, who entered the game leading the team in goals as well as shutouts, came out of the net and moved to forward. The Patriots offense flowed better from that point, but Mason was unable to come up with any goals. Indiana took advantage of their counters, as Chloe McKay scored her second goal of the game in the 83rd minute and Liz Holby added another in the 85th minute.

Mason's lone goal came in the 87th minute. Jessica Paris took a corner kick from the left side and she found the head of Annie Lebherz. Lebherz' header was blocked by Patti Benner was there to clean it up, putting the ball in the back of the net to keep the Hoosiers from recording the shutout.

The Patriots will return to action on Tuesday when they host Howard at 7 p.m.
