Patriots Close out Fall Season

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's women's rowing team competed in its final race of the fall season at the Head of the Occoquan, which was hosted by the Occoquan Boat Club on Nov. 6.

Mason's First Varsity Eight boat finished the 5,000-meter race ninth, out of 16 boats, in a time of 19:11. The Patriots' team comprised of coxswain-Jessica Dillman, stroke-Nicole Pierce, 7-Kelly Bryan, 6-Lindsay English, 5-Paige Beaudoin, 4-Jessica Barnes, 3-Marissa Olesen, 2-Megan Duvall, bow-Cristina Gonzalez.

The Second Varsity Eight boat crossed the finish line in 19:48 to garner a fifth place finish, out of 14 boats. The Patriots were comprised of coxswain-Lee Ann Fisher, stroke-Terry Seal, 7-Kelly Bryan, 6-Christina Piazza, 5-Casey Clausen, 4-Lindsay English, 3-Marissa Oleson, 2-Sibley Slinkard, bow-Christina Friend.

The Novice Eight boat claimed a 28th place finish, as the Patriots were charged with a 30 second buoy violation to finish with a time of 23:58.. Mason was comprised of coxswain-Linh Loang, stroke-Nikki Hodge, 7-Patty Stamm, 6-Amy Nelson, 5-Leah Dick, 4-Jessica Brand, 3-Kelly Gemmill, 2-Heather West, Bow-Serena Gallagher.

"I am very proud of our performance this Fall," said interim head coach Andrea Smail. "The rowers all put in a lot of hard work and have a solid foundation to build upon for the Spring season."

The Patriots will not return to action until Spring season.
