Mason Rowing Comes in Strong in their first race of the Spring

This weekend marked the beginning of the spring season for Mason Women's Rowing, racing on their home course at the Occoquan Reservoir. Each of the 4 races saw Mason finish 2nd to Bucknell University while finishing ahead of CAA rival Delaware.

Coach Dillard had this to say about the first race "I was very happy with how we performed. This was our first race of the spring and we just wanted to get one under our belt and have a strong race start to finish; I think we did that. We have been working on some new things this year and trying to apply them to our race rowing. We will look to build from this weekend and improve next week. It was good to race conference rival Delaware early to see where we stand. We will need to continue to work hard to stay ahead of them going into our conference championship."

The Novice 8, comprised almost entirely of walk-on beginners, saw their first ever 2000 meter race on Saturday. Assistant Coach Gallagher was pleased with the Novice 8 saying "They raced with the composure and control that I would expect from a varsity-level crew. This race was a great opportunity to lay the foundation for our future races at higher speeds and the novices capitalized on the experience."

The Patriots' next race takes place in Raleigh, N.C., where they will race UNC, Duke, Georgetown and Delaware. Races will begin at 8am on Lake Wheeler.
