Ellen Gallagher is in her second season with the Patriot Rowers. Her responsibilities at Mason include coaching novice rowers and recruiting. She has had a wide variety of rowing and coaching positions and brings a lot of experience to the Mason program.

Gallagher spent the 2005-2006 season at The University of Tulsa. Prior to Tulsa, she spent two years as a graduate assistant at Barry University in Miami, Fla. During her two years at Barry, she helped the squad to two consecutive appearances at the Division II NCAA Championships.

In 2005, she also helped Barry to a win at the Dad Vail Regatta in Philadelphia. In 2004, Gallagher coached the Barry Varsity 4-oared shell that won the Sunshine State Conference Championship and qualified Barry University for a team bid at the 2004 NCAA Championships.

Prior to Barry, Gallagher was the novice coach at her alma mater, Boston College, during the 2002 and 2003 campaigns. She served as the assistant novice coach from August 2001 to August 2002. While coaching at Boston College, her novices earned wins at the Knecht Cup, the Big East Conference Championship, and the New England Rowing Championships.

During her collegiate rowing career at Boston College, Gallagher was a four-year rower and earned Big East Academic Honors, the Boston College Distinguished Scholar Athlete Award and repeated Dean's List honors.

A native of Annapolis, Md., Gallagher returned to the area in 2006 and was a volunteer coach for George Washington University's rowing program until her appointment at Mason. She received her master's degree in sport management from Barry University, where she graduated at the top of her class in 2005. She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Boston College in 2001.
