Mason Lacrosse Closes 2010 Season with 17-5 Loss at No. 7 James Madison
April 29, 2010 HARRISONBURG, Va. - Senior Cristina Maurizi scored a career-high three goals in her final game but it wasn't enough to lift George Mason to victory as the Patriots dropped a 17-5 Colonial Athletic Association women's lacrosse contest to No. 7 James Madison on Thursday evening at the JMU Lacrosse Complex in Harrisonburg, Va. The loss brings the Patriots' 2010 season to a close. James Madison's Ariel Lane scored the first three goals of the game to give the Dukes the early advantage. Mason answered with three of the next four goals, including two by Maurizi, to cut the deficit to 4-3 with 16:26 remaining in the first half. After Maurizi's goal, James Madison scored seven unanswered to enter the half with an 11-3 lead. After the break, the Dukes scored the first four goals of the second half to extend the run to 11-0 and take a 15-3 advantage. Maurizi scored her final goal of the game with 12:21 remaining on the clock to end the run but James Madison went on to score two of the final three goals of the game for the final margin of victory. Five players scored multiple goals for the Dukes, who improved to 14-2 overall and 7-0 in the CAA with the win. Lane led the way with five goals and an assist for six points. Morgan Kelly was credited with the win after playing 38:36 in goal. The senior class of Sara Longobucco, Maurizi and Megan Udovich donned the Green and Gold for the final time for the Patriots in the contest. Longobucco made seven saves in 43:41 in goal, Maurizi recorded a ground ball in addition to her three goals and Udovich finished with a draw control. Junior attacker Madalyn Jamison was credited with an assist in the game to bring her single-season record total to 38. Through three seasons, Jamison has a total of 81 assists, which is also a school record.
George Mason, which lost its last 10 games of the season, finished the year with a 3-14 overall record and 0-7 mark against conference opponents. |
