Brooke McKenzie enters her third season at George Mason in 2008-09 as an assistant coach. McKenzie joined the staff prior to the 2007 season after graduating from CAA rival James Madison University, where she was a four-year starter from 2002-2006 and team captain her final season. She was a key cog in the Dukes' attack, finishing first on the team in game-winning goals in 2005 and 2006, as well as third in points scored in 2005 and second in that category in 2006. During McKenzie's four years on the team, James Madison won three Colonial Athletic Association Championships (2003, 2004 and 2006) and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament twice (2004 and 2006). She was selected Second-Team All-CAA her final year, in addition to garnering CAA All-Tournament honors her final season. She also earned a selection to the VaSID All-State Team following her senior season. In addition to her playing experience, which includes a stint on the Canadian World Cup Team, McKenzie received unique insight into coaching during her final season with the Dukes, completing a coaching internship under former JMU head coach Kellie Young. This prior coaching experience helped McKenzie immediately fulfill her duties of assisting with an offensive gameplan, recruiting and scouting opponents. |
