Women's Basketball Takes On Drexel In Final Road Game

March 1, 2008

The George Mason women's basketball team will look to return to winning ways in its final regular-season road contest on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Drexel. The two teams last met on Jan. 13, with the Dragons taking a 62-42 victory in Fairfax. Mason currently sits 11th in the conference standings, holding a one-game lead plus the head-to-head tiebreaker over Hofstra, while trailing Georgia State by two games.

Drexel enters Sunday's game with a 16-11 record, and is 11-5 in the Colonial Athletic Association. The Dragons have won four of their last five games, including a 68-63 win over Towson on Thursday evening in Philadelphia. The DU offense is led by Gabriela Marginean, who is averaging 18.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. Drexel is tied with VCU for third in the CAA standings.

In Mason's last game on Thursday at Old Dominion, an overpowering first-half scoring outburst kept the Lady Monarchs' streak alive as they defeated the Patriots, 82-44, in Colonial Athletic Association action at the Constant Center. Mason fell to 9-17, 3-13 in the CAA, while ODU remained unbeaten in the CAA, improving to 16-0 in conference and 25-3 overall. Mason was led on offense for the 18th time this season by senior All-CAA candidate Lateisha Wade, who reached double figures for the 19th time this season with 17 points. ODU was paced by double-digit scoring from four different players, led by Tiffany Green's 19 points.

Following Sunday's game, Mason closes out the 2007-08 regular season at home against Northeastern on Thursday at 7 p.m. Prior to the game, four seniors will be honored for their contributions to Mason basketball. The four student athletes are Moni Akintunde, C'Vette Henson, Casey Quigley and Lateisha Wade.
