Patriots Visit 11th-Ranked Lady Monarchs on Thursday

Feb. 27, 2008

The George Mason women's basketball team begins its final road trip of the 2007- 08 season when it travels to 11th-ranked Old Dominion for Thursday night's game. Mason has never defeated ODU in the all-time series, although only one CAA team has played the Lady Monarchs closer this season than the Patriots. ODU edged Mason, 71-61, in the two teams' Feb. 7 matchup in Fairfax. Tip time at Constant Convocation Center is set for 7 p.m.

The Lady Monarchs enter the game as the only team in the CAA with a perfect conference record, as they are 15-0 in the league and 24-3 overall. ODU is led by T.J. Jordan, who is averaging 13.8 points per game, as the Lady Monarchs are outscoring their opponents on average by 15.4 points. Megan Pym is the top rebounder, pulling down 7.6 rebounds per night.

In their last time out, Mason jumped out to an early double-digit lead, but the Towson Tigers fought back and held off the Patriots down the stretch in a 58-53 contest on Sunday afternoon at Patriot Center. Mason (9-17, 3-12) was denied its 10th victory of the season while the Tigers (18-8, 10-5) won for the first time at the Patriots' home court, ending a four-game losing skid at Patriot Center. Senior Lateisha Wade poured in a game-high 17 points and was joined in double figures by junior Jessica Smith, who added 10 points, while freshman Eugenia Broadus pulled down a season-high 11 rebounds. However, the Tigers saw three players score in double figures, led by Holly Mahan's 15 points. Mason was outshot by a narrow 37.5-to-36.7 percent margin from the field, but was doomed by a 1-for-17 (.059) showing from beyond the three-point line.

The game can be followed live on Monarch All-Access and ODUsports.com.
