Marcell Harrison enters her 13th season as an assistant coach for George Mason. She had served as the third assistant coach for three seasons before being promoted to a full-time assistant coach in 1997. A 1994 Mason graduate with a degree in sociology, Harrison is responsible for recruiting, scheduling and scouting as well as being the primary coach for the guards. Like Taneyhill, Harrison was a four-year standout for the Green and Gold prior to entering the coaching ranks. Harrison finished her career as the school's all-time steal leader with 237 steals, and now stands second with that number. Harrison also ranks fourth-all-time in 3-point FGs made with 143, and is fifth in both assists (421), as well as points (1,499). In addition, Harrison was a Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie squad selection as a freshman, a first-team All-CAA pick as a junior and a second-team All-CAA selection as a sophomore and senior. Harrison helped the Patriots to a record-tying 21-win season and a runner-up finish in the CAA Tournament during the 1993-94 season. She averaged 19.7 points during the conference tournament and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. That year, Harrison led the Patriots in scoring on 14 occasions, and recorded a team-high 89 steals. During the previous season, Harrison was the team's leading scorer with 14.6 points per game average (395 total points) and she finished her senior season with a 15.3 scoring average, along with 145 assists. Originally from Troy, N.Y. Harrison was a star player for the Troy High School squad where she finished her high school career averaging 12 points and six assists per game. As a junior, she led Troy to a 32-2 record and a New York State Championship. Harrison's parents, William and Cherry, along with her younger brother, E.J., reside in Troy, N.Y.
