Former George Mason wrestler Ryan Barden is in his second stint as an assistant coach, having previously served in that capacity in 2000-01. Barden graduated from Mason in 2000 with a B.S. in Earth Systems and is also the assistant grounds manager for the University. The Hamilton, Va. native wrestled at Mason from 1996-2000 with Mark Weader as a teammate and as an assistant coach. As a junior he came on strong at the end of the season, placing 2nd in the 1999 CAA Championship at 141 pound weight class. He was selected to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll while attending George Mason. He also was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Counsel his senior season. Barden coached at the high school level at Loudoun Valley High School as an assistant during the 2001-02 season and at Annandale High School in 1995-96. He competed for three years on the varsity wrestling squad at Loudoun Valley High School. He won the Viking award for Athlete of the Year in 1995. |
