Patriots Earn Easy Road Win at NYU

The George Mason men's volleyball team rediscoved its winning ways on Friday night as the Patriots went to New York University and downed the Violets with ease, taking an Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association win, 30-24, 30-26, 30-25.

The 13th-ranked Patriots (11-2, 5-1) snapped a two-game losing streak behind 21 kills from Hudson Bates. Bates hit .571 in the match and had three service aces, four digs and three block assists. Bates now has 45 kills in six games this week. Matt Steinfurth added six kills and no errors on eight attacks. Dave Egan added 42 assists.

The Patriots hit .390 in the match while compiling eight blocks. New York University (5-8, 1-6) was held to .267 hitting percentage, while matching those eight blocks. Macnair Sillick had 15 kills to lead the Violets while Brandon Mortenson added 11 kills. Leeor Alon had 27 assists and five digs.

Mason returns to action on Saturday when the Patriots play at Rutgers-Newark at 5 p.m.
