Findlay Takes Tough Four-Set Win Over Patriots Men's Volleyball

NEWARK, NJ - The George Mason University men's volleyball team traveled to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday to participate in the Golden Dome Classic and the two-day event ended badly for the Patriots as Findlay took a tough four-set win over the Patriots, 30-27, 30-23, 29-31, 30-28.

Matt Steinfurth continued his strong play, tallying 16 kills and a .290 hitting percentage. He also had seven block assists. Felix Campos added 12 digs and 16 kills but he also had 14 errors on 51 attacks. Dave Egan had 42 assists.

The Patriots struggled defensively on Friday night against Loyola-Chicago and there were vast improvements in their play on Saturday. Against Findlay, the Patriots had a .947 receiving percentage, 40 digs and 17.5 blocks. But Finlay had a .259 hitting percentage compared to .133 for George Mason. The Patriots had no answer for Findlay's big three of David Franklin, Jim Dziczkowski and Jeff Overfield.

Franklin had 16 kills and a .481 hitting percentage, Dzizckowski had a game-high 25 kills and Overfield added 12 kills and just five errors.

The Patriots (0-5) return to the court on Saturday, February 14 when they play at Springfield.
