Men's Volleyball Falls in Four

NEWARK, NJ - The George Mason University men's volleyball team traveled to Rutgers-Newark on Friday to participate in the Golden Dome Classic and the two-day event started poorly for the Patriots as Loyola-Chicago took a 30-19, 30-13, 25-30, 30-24 win.

The Patriots struggled both offensively and defensively as the team had just a .080 hitting percentage and a .862 receiving percentage. Loyola-Chicago had 13 service aces in the match and a .312 hitting percentage. Four players had 13 or more kills in the match with Shawn Schroeder leading the way with 15 kills and two errors on 27 attacks. James Grunst and Mike Alesch each added 14 kills and Chris Kozlarek had 13 kills.

Loyola-Chicago had41 digs and were successful on 76 of 77 receptions. They had 65 kills, nearly doubling George Mason, which had 33 kills. Matt Steinfurth had 12 kills and Dustin Crosby had six and a team-high .188 hitting percentage. Felix Campos added nine kills while Dave Egan had 28 assists.

The Patriots (0-4) head into Saturday's 5 p.m. match with Findlay looking for their first win of the year.
