Track and Field Marks Multiple Qualifiers in Nationwide Action This Weekend

The George Mason men's and women's track and field teams were spread across the country this weekend, with the women traveling to the Texas Relays as well as the Colonial Relays. At the Colonial Relays, hosted by William & Mary, the Patriot men also participated while sending a group of student-athletes to Gainesville for the Florida Relays.

A number of individual and relay times met ECAC championship qualifiers. In Austin, junior Ryann Hendricks surpassed the ECAC standard with a distance of 11.96 meters in the triple jump. Hendricks was also a member of two relay teams which met ECAC qualifiers as well. The 4x100-meter squad of sophomore Marie Fields, freshman Britney Streeter, sophomore Latasha Rivers and Hendricks finished in 48.25, while the 4x400-meter relay consisting of Fields, junior Crystal Lawrence, Hendricks and Rivers crossed the finish line in 3:49.03.

In Williamsburg, sophomore Tiara Swindell improved upon her times which already qualified in two events. Swindell ran the 200-meter dash in 24.22, while she finished the 400-meter dash in 55.38, besting the ECAC qualifier by nearly a second.
 

 

At the Florida Relays, Nate Harris met an IC4A qualifier with his 12th-place time of 53.51 in the 400-meter hurdles. Meanwhile, freshman Dwight Webley met an IC4A qualifier for the first time in his collegiate career as he finished fifth in the long jump B section with a distance of 6.94 meters.

The men also saw success at the Colonial Relays. Sam Horn finished the 800-meter run in 1:54.42, good for fifth place. The 4x1,500-meter relay team of seniors John Crain and Ryan Davis and sophomores James Snyder and Travis Boccher narrowly missed a top-five finish as they finished sixth with a time of 16:07.43.

The Patriot women will next be action at the Lou Onesty Invitational next Saturday in Charlottesville, Va., where they will be joined by the men. A contigent of the men's team will also participate in the Sea Ray Relays in Nashville, Tenn., on Friday and Saturday.
