Hay Named CAA Men's Track Athlete of the Week

April 1, 2008

RICHMOND, Va. - George Mason senior Brian Hay was recognized for his outstanding performance at this past weekend's Raleigh Relays by being named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday.

Hay, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, qualified for both the ECAC and NCAA East Regionals on Friday when he completed the 110-meter hurdles in 14.30. In the finals on Saturday, Hay finished second with a time of 14.36. He also ran the first leg of Mason's 4x100-meter relay team which met an IC4A qualifier by finishing in 42.36.

Hay's best time in the 110-meter hurdles came at last year's Patriot Open Invitational, when he set the personal-best mark of 14.12. In the 2007 NCAA East Regional Championships, Hay finished 21st in the preliminary heats with a time of 14.83 seconds.

It is the first weekly honor for Hay and the first for the Patriots in the outdoor season. He is the first male to garner a weekly award since Ryan McCoy did so on April 19, 2006.
