Patriots' Kellman Places 12th at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships
June 11, 2005
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - George Mason University senior Marc Kellman (Coram, N.Y.) placed 12th in Saturday's finals of the triple jump at the NCAA 2005 Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex on the campus of California State University - Sacramento (Sacramento State University). Kellman fouled on his three attempts in the event and did not advance to the next 9-man round. Rodrigo Mendes (17.04m) of Brigham Young won the event, followed by Allen Simms (17.03m) of USC and Aarik Wilson (16.94m) of Indiana. "He had a disappointing meet, but he had a great year," stated interim head coach Skeeter Jackson on Kellman's performance. "With the quality of the field, if he had jumped well, he could have placed in the top five. He was an All-American indoors and I thought he had a great breakthrough season." Kellman had a stellar campaign for the Patriot men, earning All-America honors in the triple jump at the 2005 NCAA indoor championships after finishing fifth overall. He also won the triple jump at the Raleigh Relays and placed first in the event at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. He owns the top five Patriot marks this season in the triple jump and leaped a personal best 15.83m at the IC4A Championships, where he finished second. Kellman's 12th-place showing is a great improvement on his 23rd finish from a year ago at the meet. Mason concludes its outdoor track and field season for 2005.
