FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Junior Mutsa Nyakabau set a new personal record and qualified for the IC4A Championships in the 400-meter dash at the Tyson Invitational, held on Jan. 15-16 at the Randal Tyson Track Complex on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. Nyakabau crossed the finish line in 49.03 seconds in the event.

A pair of Patriot seniors also performed well at the meet. Brian Hay topped the IC4A qualifying standard with a time of 8.08 seconds in the preliminary heats of the 60-meter hurdles, while Ryan McCoy jumped 15.20 meters (49 ft. 10.5 in.) in the triple jump.

On the women's side, junior Murielle Ahoure finished in 10th place amongst a group of world class sprinters. Ahoure crossed the finish line in 7.35 seconds in the finals of the event.

In the preliminary heats, Ahoure ran a time of 7.38 seconds to advance to the final round. She has already reached the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the event. In addition to the 60-meter dash, Ahoure also ran the 200-meter dash, qualifying for the ECAC Championships with a time of 24.15 seconds in the preliminary heats. Unfortunately, the time did not qualify her for the finals of the event.

Sophomore Tiara Swindell also ran in the 200-meter dash with Ahoure. She set a new personal record in the event, clocking in at 24.75 seconds to qualify for the ECAC Championships. The Hampton, Va. native also set a new personal best in the 400-meter dash, finishing the race in 54.97 seconds.

The George Mason women also topped the ECAC qualifying standard in three other events. Sophomore Asia Odum ran a time of 8.75 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles, junior Ryann Hendricks jumped 11.80 meters (38 ft. 8.75 in.) and the 4x400-meter relay team ran a time of 3:41.42 to finish in sixth place.

Both the men's and women's track and field teams will compete again next weekend at the Virginia Tech Invitational at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va.
