Stephan Dufils Places Third at Washington and Lee Invitational
Sept. 12, 2004 Mason's Junior Stephan Dufils, won his third round Flight 1 singles match in two sets, 7-5, 3-0 (def. inj) against John Snead from James Madison and placed third in the Washington and Lee Invitational. Senior Tim Bainton won his consolation match in his Flight 1 singles match, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 against Brad Stillwagon from Washington and Lee. Eric Vogel lost his consolation match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 to Jordan Eichenberger from Washington and Lee in Flight 2. The Patriots competed against each other in the consolation round of Flight 3 and Flight 4. Miles Hughes defeated Nick Schapiro, 6-1, 6-1, and Sophomores Phu Le defeated Rob Santos 6-4, 6-2. Mason sent three doubles teams to the tournament. Bainton/Dufils played in Flight 1 and lost their first consolation match to Allensworth/Snead of James Madison, 8-5 then won the second match against Bunn/Stillwagon from Washington and Lee, 8-5 in the final consolation match. In Flight 2 the team of Schapiro/Vogel and Hughes/Le lost their consolation matches. In the second consolation match the Patriot teams faced each other and Schapiro/Vogel prevailed over Hughes/Le, 8-6.
