Tennis Players Compete at ITA Regionals

Oct. 18, 2008

Two of the Patriots top tennis players traveled to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to compete in the ITA Mideast Regionals this weekend. The first day only provided two matches for Mason as Brian Fitzgerald played in the main draw for singles and played doubles with Dan Schneider.

Fitzgerald could not seem to get the games the way he wanted to go in the first set and lost 6-2. In the second set it was an entirely different story as he battled in every game and forcing the set to a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker it was much of what the second set was and Fitzgerald fought hard, but could not come out with the win as he dropped the tiebreaker and with it the match 7-6 (8-6).

Schneider and Fitzgerald came in looking to establish their cohesive doubles play against Elon University, but found it difficult to take games. Unfortunately Schneider and Fitzgerald would lose the match 8-4.

Singles Main Draw
Jamie Pulgar (NC State) def. Brian Fitzgerald (Mason) 6-2, 7-6 (8-6)
Doubles Main Draw
Gooch/Nemec (Elon) def. Fitzgerald/Schneider (Mason) 8-4
