Mason Bests Mount St. Mary's, 5-2, in Men's Tennis

FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason won four of six singles matches and claimed the doubles point en route to a 5-2 victory over visiting Mount St. Mary's Tuesday afternoon in men's tennis action at the GMU Tennis Courts. The Patriots snap a four-match losing skid with the win and improves to 2-5 on the season.

Sophomore Tim Bainton (Chobham Surrey, UK) won his third consecutive singles match, clinching the victory for the Patriots with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. Other winners included junior Tito Ballester (Lima, Peru/Saint Margaret) at the No. 1 position, freshman Stephan Dufils (Paris, France/Heritage Academy) at #3, and senior Jorge Ramallo (Arlington, VA/Milton Academy) at No. 5. For Ramallo, it was his first singles win of the season.

In doubles action, Mason won two of three matches to earn the point. Ballester and Dufils combined for an 8-3 triumph at the #1 position. Bainton and senior Cem Akalin (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) teamed for an 8-6 win at No. 2.

George Mason continues its home stand on Thursday against Howard at 2:30 p.m. at the GMU Tennis Courts.
