Men's Soccer Has Win Streak Snapped
Oct. 13, 2006
Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's men's soccer team (10-3, 6-1 CAA) dropped its first Colonial Athletic Association game of 2006 and had its nine-game win streak snapped with a 1-0 loss to Old Dominion (10-2-1, 5-1-1) Friday night in Norfolk. The last time Mason lost was on Sept. 3 when the Patriots dropped a 2-0 decision to La Salle in Philadelphia, Pa.
Mason, ranked #22 by College Soccer News, went 259 minutes without allowing a goal as the last team to score on the Patriots was Georgia State in Mason's 3-1 win on Oct. 1 in Atlanta, Ga. and this marks only the eighth goal allowed this season by Mason.
In the 54th minute, ODU sophomore Trevor Banks tried for a header, which was deflected, but freshman Ambane Emmanuel was there for the rebound. Emmanuel then kicked it in the center of the net about three yards out for the Monarchs' game-winning goal.
Freshman Sean Kelley (Lexington, Ky.) played all 90 minutes in net for the Patriots and tallied seven saves on the night, while allowing one goal. Freshman Sean Sigrist was in net the entire game and did not have any saves.
The Monarchs outshot the Patriots, 15-5, and ODU also had a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
The Patriots will return to action when they face William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va. on Oct. 15 at 2 p.m.
