WILLIAMSBURG -- Michael Kirby, 20, of Virginia Beach and Chris Bagley of Charlotte, N.C., a rising sophomore at the University of Richmond, shot 6-under-par 138 at the Golden Horseshoe's Green Course to lead three golfers who qualified for the 2005 U.S. Amateur Championship. The championship will be played from Aug. 22-28 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.

Bagley and Kirby, a rising senior at George Mason University in Fairfax delivered rounds of 68-70. Also qualifying was Trey Treadwell of Haymarket, Va., who shot three under (73-68--141) and won a playoff against Rob Manor of Greenville, N.C. (69-72--141) for the final spot.

The Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
