DAN HURLEY WINS CAA SPRING SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD FOR GOLF

June 20, 2006

RICHMOND, Va. (June 20, 2006) - George Mason golfer Dan Hurley has been honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as recipient of the CAA Scholar-Athlete Award for the spring season in his sport. The CAA announced all 10 winners and all had grade point averages over 3.35, including six who had marks of 3.8 or better.

Hurley, a junior on the golf team this past year, has earned Dean's List and Athletic Director's Honor Roll at George Mason each of his three years. The business management major has also received the CAA Commissioner's Academic Award. On the course, the Leesburg, Va. native earned All-CAA second team honors this season after recording a 74.9 stroke average in nine tournaments. He placed 17th overall and second on the team at the 2006 CAA Golf Championships with a 54-hole score of 230. Hurley fired a personal-best round of 68 at the JMU Invitational last October. He finished with the second best stroke average on the team during the fall season, shooting an average of 72.7 strokes in 10 rounds.

The conference honors one Scholar-Athlete in each of its 21 championship sports. Nominees for the award must be a starter or important reserve on their team and must meet the Academic All-America minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20. The winners were selected by a vote of the sports information directors at each CAA institution.
