
Golf Finishes Sixth out of 21 Teams at Cavalier Classic

The Mason's men's golf team finished tied for sixth place with Maryland at the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va. this weekend. The Patriots had to complete Saturday's round this morning because of a weather delay yesterday. The 21-team tournament was held at the par 72, 6,879-yard Birdwood Golf Course. Senior J.J. Amoruso led the Patriots with a four-over par two round score of 148. Tyler Frank finished the first round with a one-under par 71, but carded an 80 in the afternoon to finish tied for 37th with teammate Clark Bixler (76-75=151). Marshall Tinsley finished 30th overall with a two round 150 (77-73). Greg Brouse ended up with a 152 and tied for 75th. After jumping out to a five-shot lead following Saturday's opening round, the Cavaliers shot 5-over 293 for a 36-hole total of 575 to finish three shots ahead of runner-up Augusta State. The Jaguars turned in the day's best score, 291, to finish second at 578, and took medalist honors, but they could not catch the Cavaliers. NC State was third overall at 584. Augusta State's Henrik Norlander shot 4-under 68 during the final round to finish at 5-under 139 to take medalist honors. Virginia senior Greg Carlin shot a 1-under par 71 today to finish second overall at 4-under 140. The Patriots finish up the spring season with the Rutherford Invitational at Penn State University next weekend.
