
Mason Golf Finishes in Ninth at Rutherford Intercollegiate

State College, Pa. (April 22) - The George Mason men's golf team finished tied for 9th place at the Rutherford Intercollegiate, battling cold and wet conditions. The team scored a second and third round 302 to finish 313-302-302=917. The 45-hole tournament, held at the par-72, 6,859-yard Penn State's Blue Course in State College, Pa. Eastern Michigan won the tournament, which featured 15 teams, with a 19-over-par 595. Korey Mahoney of Eastern Michigan won the individual title, shooting a final round 74 to put him at 215 (-1) for the tournament. Mason was tied for fourth place with Virginia Commonwealth University just two strokes off of third place Bowling Green after round one, but shot only the 9th best score in round two to drop to ninth place where the team remained through the third and final round. Junior Dan Hurley led the Patriots tied for 25th place individually carding a 76-78-74=228. Senior Mike Kirby was only two strokes back of his teammate and finished tied for 32nd with a 77-79-74=230.
