Golf Slips to a Ninth Place Finish at CAA Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va - The Patriots finished in ninth place at the CAA Men's Golf Championship at the Golden Horseshoe today. The Patriots first two rounds kept them in the middle of the pack in the Championship but the team carded its worst score (310) of the three rounds today and dropped four places to ninth on the 6,738-yard 71 par golf course.

Only two of Mason's golfers shot under a round of 80 today. Tyler Frank finished 10th overall individually and five-over par for the tournament. J.J. Amoruso shot a three-over par today to finish tied for 31st. Mason's Marshall Tinsley was four-over par entering today's round, but shot an 80 to finish +13.

The Patriots Greg Brouse recorded an 81 and Clark Bixler scored an 82 today finishing in 47th and 48th place respectively.

Senior Joel Sjoholm led Georgia State to their second CAA Golf title finishing the championship 12-under par. The Panthers completed the championship 9-under par with a three-round combined score of 843. Sjoholm received the Most Outstanding Performer award and joined William & Mary's Brent Paladino, UNC Wilmington's Will Shambley, GSU's Tom Sherreard and Drexel's Sean Semenetz on the All-Tournament team.

Old Dominion finished as runners-up seven strokes off the Panthers with a 863 score. UNC Wilmington finished third with a combined score of 872, followed by William and Mary with a three-round score of 877 and VCU (878) at fifth. Towson (897) and Delaware (899) battled for sixth and seventh. Drexel (901) edged out Mason by one. James Madison (910) finished 10th and Hofstra (921) 11th.
 

 

The Patriots travel to UVA next weekend to participate in the Cavalier Classic.
