Golf Team in Sixth Place after First Round of CAA Championship

WILLIAMSBURG, Va - After the first round of the CAA Men's Golf Championship at the Golden Horseshoe, the Patriots are in sixth place seven strokes of leader Drexel, on the 6,738-yard 71 par Golf Course. Mason shot an 11-over par 295 in the opening round.

Mason's Tyler Frank was one of seven players to finish under par carding a one-under 70 on the day and tied for fourth place overall. Georgia State's Joel Sjoholm, 2008 CAA Golfer of the Year, led all competitors with a score of 65, six under par. UNC Wilmington's Will Shambley finished the day with a score of 67, followed by Drexel's Sean Semenetz (69).

The Patriots Marshall Tinsley recorded a two-over par 73 to finish round one tied for 11th. Both Clark Bixler and J.J. Amoruso shot five-over par and are tied for 30th. Greg Brouse shot an 80 to round out the Patriot golfers.

Drexel led all teams Friday with a score of 288. The Dragons shot one stroke better than Georgia State (289), two strokes better than UNC Wilmington (290) and three better than defending champions Old Dominion (291).

The VCU Rams (294) head into the second round at fifth place, William & Mary (298) at seventh and Hofstra (302) at eighth. The Towson Tigers (305), James Madison Dukes (307) and Delaware (309) round out the last three teams in scoring.

The second round of the tournament will tee-off at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, while the third round will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
