
Golfers Improve Score on Day Two to Finish 12th at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- The Patriots cut 10 strokes off their first-round team score and moved up in the standings to finish in 12th place at the Ironwood Pirate Intercollegiate held at the par 72, 7,102-yard Ironwood Golf & Country Club. The tournament was reduced to a 36-hole event after rain forced play to be canceled Saturday. Mason's J.J. Amoruso shot a five-under par 67 on Sunday to finish tied for fourth place overall, moving up 30 spaces from 34th overall after round one. He cut eight strokes off his first-round score to lead the Patriots. Clark Bixler earned the next best score for the Green and Gold by shooting a five-over par 77 and finishing in 50th overall. Teammate Greg Brouse carded a 75 in round two to finish (79-75=154) and in 64th place. Marshall Tinsley finished with a (78-79=157) and Tyler Frank had a much better outing in the second round shooting a 77 to finish with a two-round 164 (87-77). St. John's (N.Y.) Keegan Bradley and Newberry's Ben Lown each carded a two round total of 138 (-6) to claim co-individual medalist honors. St. John's (294-278=572) won the team title by 10 strokes over Newberry (286-296=582). Francis Marion (295-288=583) finished in third place followed by Liberty (290-294=594) in fourth place.
