Robert "Handy" Handerahan is in his 14th season at George Mason and he has served as the strength and conditioning coach for the men's basketball team throughout Jim Larranaga's tenure as head coach. Handerahan's main responsibilities include designing training programs for George Mason's student-athletes in order to prevent injury and enhance performance. He works with both the men's and women's basketball teams on a daily basis. He also works with other athletes and teams at George Mason and he has worked with a number of Olympians.

Handerahan came to George Mason from the University of Illinois where he earned a master's degree in kinesiology. He spent the 1995-96 season at Illinois where he worked with Kevin Hardy and Simeon Rice, the No. 2 and No. 3 picks in the 1996 NFL draft. While at Illinois, he also worked with wrestlers who won national championships as well as the Big 10 Player of the Year in women's basketball and women's volleyball. He left Illinois to come to Mason where he spent one season as Assistant Stength and Conditioning Coordinator before being promoted to his current position.

Prior to Illinois, Handerahan earned a bachelor's of science in exercise science from Bloomsburg (Pa.) University. He worked at Southern Columbia High School as the strength coach during that time and the team won the 1994 state title in football.

Handerahan is a native of Atlas, Pa. He currently resides in Reston with his wife, the former Leigh Pierson, and their daughter, Ella, 5.
