
Flasher, Krieger Named to Wallace Watch List for National Player of the Year

George Mason juniors Jordan Flasher and Scott Krieger had excellent sophomore seasons and with the 2008 campaign scheduled to start in two months, each was honored by being named to the 2008 Brooks Wallace Player of the Year Award Watch List. The Wallace Award is presented to the nation's top collegiate baseball player in conjunction with the College Baseball Hall of Fame's annual induction festivities. This year, it will be held Thursday, July 3 in the United Spirit Arena on the campus of Texas Tech University. Flasher finished last year fifth in the nation in saves with 14 and he is tops in that category among all returning players. The second-team All-CAA selection set a school record for saves in a season and tied the school record for career saves. He was a Cape League All-Star this summer on Cape Cod and he was named All-Cape after finishing the summer second in saves.
Krieger was among the top 10 in the nation in home runs with 20, tying the Mason school record for homers in a season. He is top 10 all-time at Mason in homers. The first-team All-CAA selection hit .365 with 20 homers, 12 doubles, 68 RBI, 59 runs and a .712 slugging percentage. He was among the national leaders in homer runs per game, RBI per game, runs per game and slugging percentage. Flasher and Krieger are two of 11 CAA players named to the Wallace Watch List. They are joined by Alex Buchholz and David Slovak of Delaware, Jean-Michel Rochon-Salvas of Georgia State, Matt Prokopowicz of Hofstra, Matt Browning of James Madison, Dan Hudson and Anthony Shawler of Old Dominion, Jared Bolden of VCU and Tim Park of William & Mary. The 2004 Wallace Award winner was Kurt Suzuki of Cal State Fullerton, now with the Oakland As. The 2005 winner was Nebraska's Alex Gordon, now with the Kansas City Royals. The 2006 winner was Houston's Brad Lincoln and the 2007 winner was David Rice of Vanderbilt.¬
