George Mason senior relief pitcher Shawn Griffith was selected in the 37th round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Thursday when he was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays. Griffith becomes the sixth Mason player selected in this year's draft. On Wednesday, teammates Scott Krieger, Chris Henderson, Jordan Flasher, Mike Modica and Justin Bour were chosen between the 19th and 25th rounds.

Griffith set a school single-season record for appearances this year by pitching in 29 games. He finished the season 4-0 with three saves and a 3.05 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched. He had 41 strikeouts and he was second on the team in ERA, third in wins, saves and strikeouts and fourth in innings pitched. Mason was 23-6 when he took the mound. In two years at Mason, he appeared in 50 games.

Teams have until Aug. 15 to sign players or they lose their rights.
