Baseball Concludes Opening Series With Loss
Feb. 12, 2006 The George Mason baseball team concluded its season-opening appearance at the Jaguar Invitational in Mobile, Ala. with a disappointing effort against Oklahoma State, falling to the Cowboys, 11-1. Oklahoma State scored twice in the top of the first on three hits to take a quick 2-0 lead. Ty Wright and Shelby Ford each doubled and Tyler Mach singled in the inning. A solo home run by Corey Brown led off the third and the Cowboys added two more runs later in the inning. Hitz got through the fourth and fifth without any further damage before leaving the game. Freshman Mike Modica made his collegiate debut in the sixth inning, allowing one earned run but three total runs. Jordan Flasher also made his Mason debut, pitching the seventh without allowing a run. Jason Mills pitched the eighth and ninth allowing three runs. Mason's lone run came in the eighth on a Robby Jacobsen solo homer. Jacobsen was 3 for 4 to lead Mason. Scott Krieger, Casey Slattery, Brent Weiss and Ryan Uphouse each had hits in the game. Jared Swart picked up the win for OSU allowing six hits and no runs in six innings. Mason returns to the field in search of its first win on Friday when the Patriots take on Pittsburgh at Noon in a game played at Coastal Carolina. Mason will then play Coastal Carolina on Saturday before facing both schools on Sunday.
