First Season

Lucas Jones enters his first season as an assistant coach with the Patriots and he will work with the hitters and coordinate the defense. Jones comes to Mason after spending three seasons at Randolph-Macon as an assistant coach. Prior to that he was a volunteer assistant at VCU.

Jones had an immediate impact on the Randolph-Macon program when, in his first season, he helped capture the school's first league championship in more than 20 years. The Yellow Jackets made their first NCAA Tournament appearance in more than 30 years as the team hit .325 and one of his players broke the school's single-season and career hits record.

During his one season at VCU, he was part of the Rams team that won the CAA title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

Jones played at Lynchburg College where he was a first-team All-American and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Player of the Year. He hit .426 in his three years at Lynchburg starting all 121 possible games in that span. He was also an Academic All-American.

Jones is a native of Lynchburg, Va.. He graduated from Heritage High School in 2001, earned a bachelor's degree from Lynchburg in 2005 and a master's degree from VCU in 2007.
