He established the school record for RBI in a game (tied last season by current Patriot Jeff Palumbo) with eight at Coppin State on April 22, 1999, and he is tied for the school records with five hits, four walks and three doubles in a contest. He also holds Mason's single-season mark for at bats with 240 in 2000.

Filson signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox in 2000 and played that season in the Red Sox organization. He played two more years in the independent Frontier League.

A native of Bowie, MD, Filson is a 1996 graduate of DeMatha Catholic High School. He was named co-Player of the Year in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC) and was an All-Metropolitan Washington selection by The Washington Post as a senior, and he was a two-time All-WCAC choice as he helped lead the Stags to three straight WCAC championships.
