Andy Devitt is in his fourth season as a volunteer assistant coach at his alma mater after a successful six-year stint as a high school head coach. Devitt will work with the team's hitters and outfielders. Devitt came to Mason as a coach fresh off leading Stonewall Jackson High School to a district title and the state semifinals. He was named District Coach of the Year in 2005, an honor he also won in 2003. He began coaching at Stonewall Jackson right after graduating from George Mason in 1999 with a bachelor's of science in physical education and health. From 2000-2005 he sent fifteen players off to play collegiate baseball. As a junior at Mason, Devitt batted .299 with a .479 slugging percentage and 35 RBI. He started 46 games that year. As a senior, Devitt was selected first-team All-CAA as a designated hitter. In 34 games, he batted .353 with a .560 slugging percentage. He drove in 21 runs and had a .415 on-base percentage. Devitt came to Mason as a player after two successful seasons at Neosho County (Kan.) Community College. He was twice named All-Conference and once All-Region. A native of Overland Park, Kan., Devitt attended Blue Valley Northwest High School where he played four years of baseball, basketball and football. As a senior, Devitt was named All-State and All-Met in baseball. Devitt, 33, is married to the former Donna Brasek. They have two daughters, Keeleigh, 4, and Kasey, 2. |
