Swimming and Diving Finishes Third at Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. - The George Mason men's and women's swimming and diving teams both captured third place as the Patriot Invitational concluded on Sunday evening at the Jim McKay Natatorium. Mason's men's team finished with 759 points, while the women totaled 694 points. UMBC took home the meet crown on both the men's and women's sides, with scores of 922.5 and 1,006, respectively, while UNC Wilmington earned second place. Mason captured four more victories on the final day of competition, including another record-setting relay performance. The women's 400-yard freestyle relay of sophomore Ashley Danner, senior Caitlin Impink, junior Jennifer Kane, and freshman Kelsey Holmgaard touched the wall in 3:27.61, good for a meet record. Kristen Meier earned the other women's victory as she completed a sweep of the diving events with a first-place score of 303.45. Two individual Patriot men were victorious on Sunday. Senior Eric Knight won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.86, while sophomore Preston Wolter was a winner for the second time during the meet with a first-place time of 1:49.77 in the 200-yard butterfly.
This weekend's meet was the final team competition for Mason until 2010, when it participates in the Orange Bowl Classic as part of its winter break training. That meet is scheduled for 12 p.m. in Key Largo, Fla.
