In the tradition of the Alumni-Athlete Golf Outing, support from the entire University and Mason athletic department was evident. Mason Senior Vice President Morrrie Scherrens was joined by Chief of Staff to the President, Tom Hennessey, as well as Tom Calhoun, Vice President of Facilities and Chris LaPaille, Vice President of University Relations. Additionally, Lloyd Griffiths, Dean of the Volgenau School of Information, Technology and Education, and Bill Reeder, Dean of the College of Visual Arts and Performances, joined the field. Moreover, many other university alumni-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff representing the sports of men's basketball, softball, baseball, men's volleyball, men's golf, wrestling and women's lacrosse took part in the event. Men's wrestling received a special thanks and a percentage of the tournament proceeds for their next year's operating budget as they were the Mason team with the most alumni participation and team representation at this year's golf outing. Additional thanks were extended to Brion's Grille as the outing lunch sponsor and My Plumber, the outing cart sponsor.
While no golfer was able to sink a hole-in-one to win a new Pontiac Torrent, donated by Koons of Manassas, there was aggressive competition for the remaining contest holes. The winner of the Closest to the Pin contest was Bill Musser. The Straightest Drive competition, sponsored by Washington Sports and Entertainment was claimed by Troy Van Winkle. Lastly, on the women's side, the winner of the Longest Drive was Meg Dentler, and on the men's side, James Crutchfield.
