Student-Athlete Scholarships in Action: Scott Krieger

March 17, 2008

Junior Scott Krieger represents more than just Mason baseball. A native of Towson, Maryland, Scott attended Calivert Hall High School and played on their nationally ranked baseball team. He was recruited by Mason and offered a scholarship to play for the Patriots after attending one of Mason's recruiting camps. As a business finance major at George Mason, he works hard both on and off the field.

In just two seasons with the George Mason baseball team, Scott established himself as one of the top sluggers in school history. In his first 116 games, he's hit 32 homers with 111 RBI, 111 runs, a .335 batting average and a .626 slugging percentage. He is top-5 all-time at Mason in homers and slugging percentage, top-10 all-time in batting average and top 20 all-time in runs and RBI. Additionally, Scott was selected first-team All-CAA as a sophomore and he was named to the CAA All-Rookie Team as a freshman.

During the summer, Scott must focus his attention on the diamond. Summer baseball is the most important time for a collegiate baseball player because they get experience using wooden bats like professionals use in Major League Baseball, face stronger competition, and are scouted on a weekly basis. This past summer, Scott lived with a host family and competed in the Coastal Plains League in Wilmington, North Carolina.

With a year-round commitment to Mason baseball, Scott fills his spare time off the field with school work and an annual community service allegiance put forth by the entire Mason baseball team. Each year the team takes time to travel to local elementary schools to read to children. Scott enjoys the opportunity to work with children in hopes that they will look up to him as a role model.
